Old attitudes and the new law

New regulations protecting against age discrimination came into force this week, and they could have as much impact on the young as the old. David Taylor reports. Nobody these days would dare reject a job applicant for reasons of race, gender or sexual orientation. To do so would be to display an unacceptable bigotry and, if anybody were to complain, the prospective employer would be dragged through the courts, fined and made to pay compensation.
