After a century and a half of heavy use, Newcastle's oldest bridge needed a big overhaul.For the last three years the oldest of Newcastle upon Tyne's famed bridges has been veiled behind sheeting. The High Level Bridge is being repaired and strengthened, but by May next year the structure will once again be visible and in use by the public - who will probably say: "What's taken so long? The bridge doesn't look any different."
