And Alfred McAlpine's £22 million contract to widen 2.5 km of the A27 near to the opera buff's Mecca of Glyndebourne is likewise getting more complicated.rnThe project stretches from Southerham to Beddingham on the South Downs near Lewes. For the first two-thirds of the route work is quite straightforward: essentially a cut-and-fill exercise to create the new widened section alongside the existing road, which has single lanes each way.
