Brighter starts in Northern Ireland

The construction industry in Northern Ireland is in a tough place on the face of it. New figures show that activity has dropped significantly in the past year - economic growth is predicted to drop below two per cent in 2008, the point where traditionally construction starts to shrink (see page 13). The collapse of private-sector housing seems to be more than swallowing up Government investment in social infrastructure, itself not helped by slow progress on planning bigger projects.
