With 20 per cent of the UK's current building stock dating back to before the early 20th century, conservation and restorative work at heritage sites provides ample opportunity for contractors looking to broaden their horizons. Despite sharp falls in the availability of repair and maintenance work in line with the overall construction activity downturn, a shortage of workers appropriately skilled for high-level restoration work does offer some possibilities for contractors.
