Bidders Restricted To Two Of Three Lots On Road Plan

An innovative procurement method from the Northern Ireland Roads Service means that firms bidding for work on the ￡600 million A5 job will be restricted to tendering for a maximum of two of three lots. Construction work on the A5 western transport corridor project is divided into three lots covering 80 km of new dual carriageway from Londonderry to south of Aughnacloy via Strabane and Omagh. The client hopes its procurement process will increase competition and cost effectiveness. Balfour Beatty has teamed up with Bam Civil and Northern Irish firm SP McCann to bid for work on the project. Northern Irish firms Graham and Farran have also teamed up.
