Small tools can be an expensive legal issue

As most accidents on construction sites we hear about involve large pieces of equipment, it is easy to forget that the health and safety regulations apply to smaller tools. But simple hand tools also fall within the legal definition of 'work equipment' and as such need to meet relevant regulations. A recent case which illustrates this point is that of a firm which was fined ￡2,500 and ordered to pay nearly ￡3,000 in costs after an employee suffered severe injuries when his hand was caught in an industrial drill.
