"My lesson is: don't wait for the perfect opportunity. If we had waited until we had developed a detailed BIM strategy with roles and responsibilities, return on investment and a business case, we would probably still be discussing it and missing opportunities. We sometimes use projects to test ideas and potentially over-deliver in preference to having to deliver for the first time in a high-pressure situation. If something works, we can demonstrate a value-adding skill. If it doesn't, we haven't disappointed a client or jeopardised a project."
