Concrete contractor J Reddington was unsurprisingly furious when it discovered it had been the victim of a "malicious" hoax in which no less than 23 false notices about it were lodged with Companies House - creating the false impression the firm had gone into administration. It is a serious matter, with the police now involved. But the response from Companies House is worrying for any business -it says it does basic checks but accepts documents 'in good faith' and does not verify or validate such information before it is placed on the public record. Whatever the details of this case, Companies House needs to offer more reassurance to firms in future.
