Crane: 'I'll put the fun back into our industry'

Industry stalwart Alan Crane has pledged to put the "fun" back into construction in his new role as president of the Chartered Institute of Building. Mr Crane, who has held several senior roles for government and industry over the past 40 years, took the helm of the professional body yesterday. He told Construction News a priority for his 18-month tenure was an injection of passion. "I want to find a way of putting the fun back into our industry, because we are not attracting enough young people into the industry and into our professional bodies," he said. "There was a more positive attitude when I qualified. I don't think it's just the recession - life in general is getting more serious. People wonder why young people go on benders, but they need that release because they are not getting it from their careers."
