AT A GLANCE: PFI 'CALL FOR EVIDENCE'

On 1 December the government will launch a 10-week call for evidence on PFI and potential alternative delivery models. Wk A damning PFI report was launched by MPs on the Treasury Select Committee in August, in which it slammed the initiative used to finance new public building programmes as "extremely inefficient" and highlighted rocketing borrowing costs since the credit crisis. The government has set out to recover £1.5bn across more than 500 existing PFIs and also abolished PFI credits as part of the 2010 comprehensive spending review.
