Focus shifts to road spending

Contractors have welcomed signs that the government is preparing to unlock road schemes, as the industry gears up for the release of funding expected in the autumn statement. The CBI and construction industry trade bodies have submitted lists of road schemes that are currently delayed or scrapped that they believe can be easily restarted to boost much-needed economic growth. Research from Arup and the RAC Foundation shows a £12.8 billion funding shortfall on major routes to 2014/15.
