Although the UK economy remains in the doldrums, Speedy UK Asset Services managing director David Graham remains bullish. He says Speedy's business "looks solid" as the company continues to focus on the less volatile sectors including water, waste, energy and transport such as rail and airports. Group marketing director Steve McIntyre underlines this and cites the water industry. "It's a regulated spend," he says. "It has to happen and it's somewhat insulated from the fickle nature of government policy. Because of that you are relatively sure of the income." Mr Graham views transport in a similar way: "Look at the expenditure at Gatwick Airport; it is £1 million per day. And then there is Heathrow and the developments at Stansted and Edinburgh airports...that's not going to go away." The company constantly seeks early involvement in major projects such as the High Speed 2 rail scheme and Hinkley Point.
