University College London has awarded Kier a £45 million contract to build the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre, Construction News understands. The firm is understood to have been named preferred bidder several months ago but has only recently finalised the deal, ready for a start on site this month. The £65m centre at UCL's campus on the corner of Howland Street and Charlotte Street, WC1, will take 30 months to complete and will provide a home for scientists researching neural circuits and behaviour. The building comprises two basements, rising to five floors. Ian Riche Architects designed the scheme and Arup is providing both structural and mechanical electrical consultancy services.
