Wear bridge award delayed

The contract award for the £118 million New Wear Bridge in Sunderland has been delayed after one of the bidders requested more time to submit its final tender. Construction News understands that Graham Construction, one of two remaining bidders for the scheme, has asked for an extension before tabling its final tender for the complex bridge. A spokeswoman for Sunderland City Council said: "'The tender return date is 22 May; as we're in the procurement process we cannot discuss the project in detail."
