A joint venture between Interserve and Shanks Group will build and operate a new waste treatment facility in Derby under a 27-year £950m PPP. The companies' special purpose vehicle, Resource Recovery Solutions (Derbyshire), will deliver the project. RRS has been providing interim waste management services in Derby and Derbyshire since 2009 and working with the councils to secure planning permission for the new facility. RRS has agreed funding terms on the transaction and will now start construction. A new £l45m MBT facility and an onsite gasification plant in Sinfin, Derby, will now be built by Interserve, which Shanks will operate alongside Derby's existing waste management facilities.
