The UK's energy market is not functioning as well as it could. Focus has been on the consumer experience, but I think this is equally true for all participants in this area. Issues include investors not coming forward because of uncertainty over future development, the supply chain not winning contracts and being put to work, and generators and suppliers finding themselves at the mercy of the prevailing political narrative. Throw in the time it took for government to consult on its Electricity Market Reforms, as well as the protracted negotiations that are still ongoing around Hinkley Point C, and it is clearly not a good position to be in.
