Welcome to our second supplement of the year covering the construction equipment sector and how it can be of more value to the boardroom. As regular readers will recall, to ensure its relevance to the director-level reader, we focus all our articles on what we call the five pillars of plant: namely Safety, Productivity, Innovation, Efficiency and Sustainability. This time around we have a diverse set of articles, each building on one or more of the pillars. Our opening article contains perhaps the biggest, yet most exciting, challenge for our section of the industry - how plant hirers and contractors can ditch then-historic ways of working to work more productively together. The man at the centre of it, Steve Corcoran, is no shrinking violet when it comes to challenging the status quo and his views on plant's inadequate role in the construction process are sure to be food for thought. His contention, that contractors who automatically push plant hire out to the buying team are failing in their responsibility to seek best value, is bound to provoke debate.
