HS2 on Chinese bids:'We've been talking to them for over a year'

A senior High Speed 2 director has rejected claims that chancellor George Osborne moved the goalposts by apparently inviting Chinese bids for civils contracts, saying the company had been engaging with firms from China for the past 12 months. Speaking exclusively to Construction News,HS2 commercial director Beth West said the perception that Chinese firms had been invited to bid for work just two weeks ago was wrong and that HS2 meetings with Chinese companies had been going on for "well over a year". Ms West was speaking after Mr Osborne launched the procurement process for £ll.8bn of civils work on HS2 and appeared to invite Chinese contractors to become involved in the project.
