摘要

Highways England is retendering a package of work on the £l.3bn A14 improvement scheme due to concerns over contractors' ability to meet long-term targets on issues including passenger safety. A Costain-Skanska joint venture was last week appointed to the first two lots of the programme, at an expected construction cost of around £600m. The scheme is still subject to a development consent order being granted next year and transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin's approval. Highways England director for complex infrastructure Chris Taylor told Construction News bidders had failed to meet certain demands on their tenders for phase three, leading to the reprocurement of work to widen the existing A14 from Swavesey to Milton.
