Productivity 'puzzle' drives calls for industry overhaul

Industry leaders have called for the adoption of new business and financial measures to help solve "construction's great puzzle" of poor productivity. Research by the Chartered Institute of Building found improvements must be made in the way productivity is measured and how government intervention can improve the industry's record. Construction productivity has barely improved since the CIOB started collecting data in 1997. Output per hour stood at £15,431 per worker for Q3 2015. This was only 1.4 per cent higher than the first data collected in Q1 1997, when output stood at £15,2111 per worker.
