摘要

With all the noise surrounding the EU referendum, you could be forgiven for forgetting the Housing and Planning Bill is still working its way through parliament. Many of the legislative changes revolve around promoting homeownership, releasing more land and generally easing the planning system. However, for a real solution to the housing crisis, we have to fix the construction industry. A recent RICS survey revealed that in Q12016 the private housing sector saw its slowest rate of growth since Q2 2013. It seems many of the endemic problems in construction around market cyclically and resource constraints have come to a head. Referendum-fuelled economic uncertainty, fiscal policy measures and high construction costs are looking to threaten attempts to boost the number of homes being built.
