A steeplejack's skills and capabilities have come a long way in recent years, says Wayne Murry, safety and access committee chairman for ATLAS (Association of Technical Lightning and Access Specialists). "Our industry's USP has always been the ability to reach almost any point on any structure at any height," he says. "While that remains the case, we now also use a multitude of different access methods, including employing large 90 m truck-mounted MEWPs, suspended scaffolds, steeplejack modular scaffolds, access cradles and rope access, rather than defaulting to traditional steeplejack laddering methods.
