Around 200 years ago, Canada Dock was pulsating with economic activity. It was part of a network of 10 docks that hugged the banks of the River Thames in south-east London. Collectively, they were known as the Surrey Commercial Docks and marked a boom in trading activity in the early 19th century as the British Empire expanded overseas.
