Horizon Nuclear Power has officially withdrawn its application to build the proposed Wyfla Newydd nuclear facility, dashing hopes that a new investor might take on the scheme.In December, the company, a subsidiary of Hitachi, was granted a delay to the scheme's development consent order after it said it was in "early conversations with third parties" about transferring the site.But in a letter last week, Horizon chief executive Duncan Hawthorne said: "As you know, Hitachi announced the suspension of the project in January 2019 and its intent to withdraw entirely in September 2020. In light of this and in the absence of a new funding policy from HM Government, Hitachi Ltd has taken the decision to wind-up Horizon as an active development entity by 31 March 2021."Horizon suspended the project in 2019 after being offered a strike price - the guaranteed payment for the electricity generated -considerably lower than that agreed for Hinkley Point C.
