Morgan Sindall CEO John Morgan thinks COVID-19 has been a "wake-up call", with restrictions forcing a reassessment of how businesses operate and leading to improvements. Morgan spoke to Construction News following a trading update that revealed the company would beat an earlier full-year pre-tax profit forecast of £60m. On the new site operating methods that the industry has had to take up, he said: "I think it's good for productivity, because the guys have got to think about people working safely and while they have less people. So they've got to make certain they have the right materials, and are working in the right sequence. I think it's been a good wake-up call." The company is now operating close to pre-pandemic output levels, the CEO claimed. The pandemic has also served to accelerate some existing trends, he said.
