摘要

HS2's chief executive has claimed the National College for Advanced Transport and Infrastructure's attempt to block the release of a negative inspection report was motivated by a desire to prevent a worsening of skill shortages in the sector. The college, formerly known as the National College for High Speed Rail, tried to block the publication of an Ofsted report that found it 'inadequate', via the watchdog's complaint procedures and a judicial review. The Further Education Commissioner has since given the college 'formal intervention' status, meaning it will now have to prove its continuing viability. Mark Thurston (pictured) told MPs on the Public Accounts Committee that the college had been concerned about the potential impact of the report on the supply of skilled workers.
