Kier to replace Amey on Birmingham roads contract

Kier is set to take over as the maintenance contractor for Birmingham's highways when Amey exits its costly PFI contract with the city. The firm will take over on an interim basis for 15 months from 1 April to the end of June 2021. The council expects to have a permanent replacement for Amey appointed by July 2021. Kier's contract covers planned and reactive maintenance, inspection, traffic operations and winter servicing. Natasha Rouse, chief executive of Birmingham Highways limited (BHL), which administers the PFI contract, said: "The company has put together a robust offer that demonstrates its ability to provide a good quality of service and mobilise quickly and efficiently. We aim to achieve a seamless transition to our new provider while continuing to service the city's highways network."
