Network Rail announces revamp

Network Rail is to undergo a major structural reorganisation, which will increase regional responsibilities in a bid to improve performance. In a statement, the operator said it is creating 13 routes split up into five new regions, which will align better with franchises and join track. It plans to devolve work to those regions from its headquarters to help with efficiency. The five new regions will be Scotland, Wales & Western, London North Western, Southern (comprising the current Wessex and South East) and Eastern (comprising the current LNE & EM and Anglia). A route director will be appointed to each region. The plans follow a review by chief executive Andrew Haines and are the subject of consultation, the operator said.
