Visitors to last month's rnIntermat exhibition in Paris, France may have been surprised to see some machines on display which did not have a CE mark, and which clearly did not conform to European legislative requirements. Although it is illegal to place such machines on the European market, or to use them in Europe, the Machinery Directive does allow such equipment to be displayed at exhibitions.rnHowever, if non-compliant equipment is put on display, it must be clearly labelled as such. Companies exhibiting non-compliant machines (or components) are obliged to inform buyers that they are not for sale in the EU until theyrnhave been brought into compliance - either by the manufacturer or its representative in Europe.
