Reconstruction starts in Abruzzo

The magnitude 6.3 earthquake that struck the Abruzzo region of central Italy on April 6 killed almost 300 people and left an estimated 58000 homeless. An initial estimate by interior minister Roberto Maroni said it would cost € 12 billion to repair the damage.rnTens of thousands of buildings were damaged by the quake and its aftershocks. However, a survey of the 1500 most badly damaged carried out in the fortnight following the disaster concluded that about half were habitable. The majority of those found to be uninhabitable were believed to be repairable.
