One european rental company that has taken dramatic measures to counteract the financial crisis is GAM, Spain's largest renter, which has moved into 14 countries in Europe, South America and the Middle East over the past three years. This initiative has seen it establish rental operations in Portugal, Bulgaria, Romania and Poland, followed by Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Panama and Saudi Arabia, and more recently in Chile, Columbia, Morocco, Senegal and Iraq. The company used excess fleet from its Spanish operation, augmented by used machines bought at auctions.
