Cost-efficient cutting

Manufacturer Wirtgen has introduced a new generation of cutting tools for cold milling machines - generation X. The newly-developed point-attack cutting tools are said to enhance the performance and cost-efficiency of cold milling machines. Wear resistance, for instance, has been improved by optimising the composition of the carbide material. Thomas Lehnert, responsible for cutting tool development at Wirtgen, said, "Having the right mixture of coarse and fine tungsten carbide is important in simultaneously determining both the wear resistance and the breaking strength of the carbide tip."
