Volvo Penta has developed a new start/stop function for its 5 and 7 litre EU Stage IIIB/US Tier 4 Interim-compliant industrial engines that is said to reduce fuel consumption, noise and emissions.rnThe feature shuts the engine down during extended idle periods, and turns it back on when the operator presses the brake or accelerator or pulls a lever in the cab.rnVolvo Penta industrial product planning manager David Hanngren claimed the feature could save between 5 and 15% in fuel costs, depending on how much idling an operator does in an application.
