FAIR PLAY NEEDED IN THE SINGLE MARKET

The European Commission recently approved its package to strengthen market surveillance in Europe, paving the way for fairer competition in the internal market. While CECE welcomes the Commission's initiative, it will propose some improvements. Johann Sailer, CECE president, said only effective market surveillance would avoid the competitiveness of European manufacturers being undermined and ensure users of construction machines were safe. Market surveillance's task is to implement effective measures against manufacturers and dealers who place non-compliant equipment on the market. So, market surveillance helps to protect buyers and ensures operators' safety on worksites. Insurance, reputation and liability questions are only some of the risks which companies may have to face when selling, buying or using equipment which is not fully compliant with European legislation.
