Volvo has introduced two short-swing-radius excavators, the ECR58D and ECR88D, with Tier 4-Final engines. Both feature automatic, two-speed travel for enhanced traction, and hydraulic travel pedals for easy and accurate track control, the company says. The ECR58D has a 50-horsepower engine, and the ECR88D comes with a 58-horsepower engine. (Detailed specifications at ConstructionEquipment.com.) Volvo says the units' exhaust aftertreatment system offers seamless operation even during regeneration. An auto-idling system reduces engine speed when the controls are inactive for a period of time that can be pre-set by the operator (between 3 and 20 seconds).
