IP VIDEO VOYEURS: THE U.S. KEEPS ITS EYE OVERSEAS

Video over IP works, though not if you think of IP as the Internet. If it's a private network, on the other hand, then video entertainment is made to order. But while the IPTV model is booming in overseas markets, the different broadband environment in the U.S. will prohibit IP-based video services from taking hold in this country for the foreseeable future. And that may not be such a bad thing. Hakman Kim has the kind of business opportunity other telecom service providers―particularly in the U.S.―lust after. Kim is the business development director for The Contents Co. subsidiary of South Korean telecom giant SK Group. SK not only owns the broadband access lines to its end users, it owns the buildings in which they live. In any language, that's called a captive audience.
