The confectionery market has changed dramatically in recent years. When chocolate was first introduced in both European and American markets, it was sold as cocoa to be made into drinks. Fast-forward to 2018 and we've got an enormous range of choice, from seasonal to artisan, to health and functional products. Meanwhile, consumer demand for new choices continues to increase as emerging markets import chocolate and candy merchandise. According to The Financial Times, in Asia alone, chocolate demand is set to outstrip global growth with a forecasted increase of around three to four per cent.
