Concrete work is complete on a new ￡200 million residential and commercial development in Edinburgh city centre. Once completed in 2009, the AMA & Grosvenor development project in the Fountainbridge area of the Scottish capital will be the biggest of its kind in the city. Working on behalf of main contractor HBG, Dunne Group began bulk excavation works last August for the east underground car park.rnOver 30,000m~3 of material was transported off-site before foundation work for the car park got underway in early October. Excavation work was hampered by the natural high water table and general inclement weather conditions throughout August and September. In consultation with SEPA, a dewatering system was installed, which discharged continually through a proprietary filtration system into the sewer network. To allow full excavation of the basement, a 25m-long, 5m-high king post retaining wall and a 20m-long, 6m-high propped sheet pile retaining wall were required to support the existing tenement building and existing sewerage system respectively. These were installed as the excavation progressed.
