'Attention to detail is of the highest order' LSE building 'Marshalls' a triumph at Concrete Society Awards

The project, nominated by Getjar, consists of a double basement in reinforced concrete and ten-storey post-tensioned superstructure. Concrete is fully exposed in all areas, with minimal surface finishes and some very interesting and intricate shapes and construction processes used. In a change from the usual unveiling of winners, the announcement was made by Deiniol Williams, Concrete Society President, and Kathy Calverley, Managing Director, by video on the Society Awards website (www.concrete-awards.org.uk). Nationwide restrictions brought on by the pandemic meant that the traditional Awards Dinner had to be cancelled this year. On announcing the winner, Deiniol Williams said the project deserved to win as a, "highly extensive and immensely impressive structure, with high-quality in-situ finishes. A challenging construction with innovative large-scale elements, including a floating column and helical stairs, were all constructed with a variety of different concretes to suit different forms."
