FIFA World Cup 2014: Structural design for a new stadium

The new Corinthians Stadium is being built in the Itaquera district of the city of Säo Paulo, Brazil. The stadium has 65,800 seats; it will be the venue of the opening match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. After the World Cup, it will be home to the Corinthians Football Club and serve as a venue for major events, which is supported by the fact that it also includes a congress center and shopping facilities. The structural design was prepared by Werner Sobek, a group of architects and structural engineers with offices in Stuttgart, Dubai, Frankfurt, Istanbul, London, Moscow, New York and Sao Paulo. This firm was established in 1992. It currently employs more than 200 people who work on all types of buildings, structures and materials. Its key areas include building construction, facade design and consultancy on sus-tainability.
