At RWTHAachen University currently a pavilion is realized with a load-bearing structure consisting of four large-sized concrete shells. As reinforcement a non-corroding high strength textile fabrics made of Carbon is used, which allows for the filigree, double-curved concrete shells with dimensions of 7m × 7m (23ft × 23ft) and a thickness of only 6cm (2,4in). The shells are supported at their center by a precast reinforced concrete column and arranged in a 2 × 2 grid. After installation of the circumferential glass facade the building will have a usable surface of 14m x 14m (46ft x 46ft) and a height of 4m (13ft) (Fig. 1). The building serves the Collaborate Research Center "Textile Reinforced Concrete" (SFB 532) as demonstrator-building, showing the load-bearing capacity and the potential for further applications of the employed composite material [1].
