Precast concrete elements, double walls with in-situ concrete core, and precast floor plates are enjoying increasing popularity owing to the fact that their exterior surfaces are smooth-formed in the factory. Complaints have repeatedly arisen, however: prompted, in particular, by lack of bond in double walls and leakiness of the joints. Basically, a monolithic bond of the precast concrete elements with the filler concrete should be achieved. Only then, among other reasons, are the assumptions for monolithic structural members achieved, especially in replanning from in-situ concrete to precast concrete construction. The bond conditions are also fundamental for transmission of shear forces and sound insulation. For watertight constructions, the interior surface should have a minimum roughness, according to the Waterproofing Code, to prevent formation of water channels in the shear joints.
