Waterproof concrete basements are considered to be reliable and solid, among others, due to the advantage that grouting is possible from inside in case of a subsequent leakage - this, however, has to be implemented in the design already. Service class A (no moisture penetration) is the normal case for a usual basement. The DBV Code of Practice on „High Quality Use of Basements" published in 2009 differentiates between A~* (simple), A~(**) (normal) and A~(***) (demanding). The first consultancy task of the planner in this regard is to explain the differences of the versions regarding the use (and the costs) to the client in an easy, understandable and provable way. Unless otherwise agreed, the commonly used version, i.e. normal = A~(**), should be assumed.
