Hurricane Sandy caused a trail of destruction from Jamaica to Maine and left much of the New Jersey shoreline destroyed when it made landfall in late October 2012. It was the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season and the second-costliest hurricane in U.S. history, costing over $65 billion dollars to date. As Sandy moved up the U.S. Eastern Seaboard, winds reached speeds of 115 miles per hour and the effects could be felt as far away as Wisconsin.
