ESC secretary-general Nicolette van der Jagt makes a call for dialogue on global issues within the industry, citing the ESC's Global Shippers' Tripartite Meeting as an example of how to promote communication among shippers, lines, port and terminal operators and nvoccs. At the recent 8th CI Global Liner Shipping Conference in London, a South African shipper called on shippers to organise themselves at a global level, and to step out of their apathy. This call prompted me to flag the 13th annual Tripartite Shippers' Meeting, which the European Shippers' Council (ESC) will be hosting this year. The Global Shippers' Tripartite now represents the transport interests of the majority of the world's manufacturing and retail businesses.
