APL completes Oakland reconstruction

Following two years of major renovation work, APL has more than doubled the annual capacity of its container terminal on the US West Coast port of Oakland (CA), from 180,000 to 386,000 lifts, and within the same 80-acre footprint. Its storage capacity has also increased substantially, from 8.685TEU to 13.800TEU. A spokesperson for the carrier added: 'The project has also improved terminal operating efficiency, permitting future cargo volume growth in Oakland, while minimising environmental consequences.' The four-berth terminal, operated by Eagle Marine Services, has been renamed Global Gateway Central.
