Carlyle buys US intermodal operator

Major private equity firm The Carlyle Group has acquired a majority interest in the Hazel Crest (IL)-based intermodal facilities operator ITS Technologies & Logistics LLC, for an undisclosed sum. ITS was previously owned by the US company Lanigan Holdings LLC. The Lanigan family founded, and still controls, the intermodal equipment company Mi-Jack Products, which is also the co-owner of the Panama Canal Railway Company. According to The Carlyle Group, the Lanigan family is retaining a 'significant minority equity interest' in ITS. As one of the leading intermodal facility operators in North America, ITS lifts containers between truck and rail, and undertakes rail switching, dray-age, terminal administration and equipment maintenance.
