The Bohai Bay ports in China are aggressively expanding and developing their terminals. While Qingdao is the area's current number one port for container throughput, how long will this last? Rebecca Moore reports. Rates of growth among the ports in the Bohai Bay area of China have been rocketing over the past few years due to the area's booming economy and rapidly rising international trade. Just how significant the ports in this area are can be seen from 2007's top 10 container ports in China, where Qingdao was at number four, with a throughput of 9.5 million TEU, Ttanjin at number seven, with a throughput of 7.1 million TEU and Dalian scooping ninth position, with its volume totalling two million TEU. In terms of the top 10 fastest growing ports of 2007, Qingdao scooped the number five position, with a growth of 23% compared to 2006. Tainjin took seventh position with a growth rate of 19% and Dalian took eighth place with a growth of 19%.
