Maersk cuts ECSA/Mediterranean service

Maersk Line will terminate its 'Itajai Express' service between the East Coast of South America (ECSA) and the western Mediterranean from the end of June. Maersk stated that its vessels on this string had 'not been fully utilised', and that the termination of the service would 'allow for an acceptable return on investments in this trade.' The 'Itajai Express' deployed 3 × 2,500TEU-class vessels, which were smaller than many other ships serving the ECSA/Europe trade, including those on other Maersk strings. From now on, Maersk will load ECSA/Mediterranean cargoes on its L-class ECSAorth-ern Europe service, on which the carrier deploys 5 × 3.700TEU vessels.
